Weekend Guide: Cyclones’ Opening Day, Sound Bathing + More
Spring started on March 20 this year, but there’s a milestone happening this weekend that’s even more important: opening day for the Brooklyn Cyclones. Your favorite minor league Mets affiliate kicks things off on Friday with a game against the Wilmington Blue Rocks. In celebration, we’ve kept a particularly local focus for this edition of the Weekend Guide, with BK-based shopping and drinking events.
If you choose to combine the two, we can’t be held responsible for your subsequent credit card bills.

How the Roberts Court is Remaking the Constitutional Order: The 2025 Robert L. Hess Memorial Lecture @ Woody Tanger Auditorium, Brooklyn College Library
11:00 a.m.
Professor Melissa Murray, co-author of The Trump Indictments and co-host of the legal podcast Strict Scrutiny, is the 2024-25 Robert L. Hess Scholar-in-Residence at Brooklyn College. To celebrate, the school has four days of events planned. For this one, Murray will be discussing how the current Supreme Court is reshaping the country’s democracy—a topic that could not be more timely. She will be joined by Brooklyn College professor Corey Robin, author of a book about Clarence Thomas.
Bingo Forever World: Episodes 7, 8 & 9 @ Superior Ingredients (Main Room)
6:30 p.m.
This is your chance to take part in a “live immersive dystopian TV game show.” Any audience member, at any moment, could be invited onstage to play a game against a stranger for cash — and stay onstage until they lose.
Wet Album Release Party @ Rodeo
9 p.m.
If you’ve been counting the hours until the release of the new Wet album, Two Lives, over the last year, this seemingly free and sure enough intimate album release party will shave a few off the dial. Hear the project in full and stick around for curated sounds from a handful of trusted selectors Thursday night at Rodeo, where the auras are consistently excellent and the natural wines are always plentiful.
Rome Streetz Presents: The Town @ Baby’s All Right
9:30 p.m.
Rome Streetz is one of the best rappers working today, so he surely knows talent when he sees it. This show, billed as “Rome Streetz and friends,” is sure to introduce you to some amazing talent you might not have heard of. And no matter how you feel about the other acts on the bill, you still get to see Rome.

Digital Privacy & InfoSec Workshop @ Interference Archive
6:30 p.m.
Everyone needs to be concerned about information security and digital privacy these days, as a glance at the headlines will reveal. So the Interference Archive and the Archival Technologies Lab are teaming up to teach you how to stay safe out there.
Brooklyn Cyclones (Opening Day) vs. Wilmington Blue Rocks @ Maimonides Park
6:40 p.m.
The Brooklyn Cyclones—and, of course, our fave King Henry—return to action with their first game of the 2025 season. There’s literally no reason not to go. It’s baseball, it’s on the beach, you’ll probably get a chance to run the bases after the game — what else do you need?
Vampire Ball w/Funkrust Brass Band, Mars Ray & the Raptures, Pinc Louds (solo set), Out of System Transfer @ Our Wicked Lady
7 p.m.
Funkrust Brass Band describes itself as “a 20-piece post-apocalyptic disco-punk brass band” — which makes the group sound like almost as much fun to watch as it actually is. Also performing will be Mars Ray & the Raptures, who are celebrating the release of their first single ever, “Take My Heart (The Toxic Relationship Song).”
Pom Pom Squad @ Music Hall of Williamsburg
8 p.m.
Pom Pom Squad is ending their Mirror Ball Tour by coming home, with a final date at the Music Hall of Williamsburg. The group is supporting their latest album ‘Mirror Starts Moving Without Me,’ which was inspired by bandleader Mia Berrin’s response to becoming a public figure once the group’s 2021 debut became successful. “Receiving attention, negative or positive, left me feeling very fragmented, constantly thinking about other people’s perceptions,” she said. Come see her put herself back together in front of a sure-to-be-rapturous audience.
Associated & Indie Hourzz Presents: Picture A Wave with Julia Holter, Discovery Zone, and Niecy Blues @ 99 Scott
8 p.m.
Described as “an exploration in sound and light,” the inaugural installment of Associated and Indie Hourzz’s “Picture a Wave” concert series is sure to be a multi-sensory experience. In the Main Room of Bushwick’s 99 Scott, you can see and hear Julia Holter’s electronic tinkering, Discovery Zone’s mixed-media pop experiments, and Niecy Blues’ sprawling R&B suites.

Saturday Sound Bathing: Meditations with Samer Ghadry @ Public Records
11 a.m.
The current forecast is calling for a cold and rainy start to the weekend. And what better way to simultaneously duck the outdoors and vibe-check your chakras for a few hours than pairing a sound bath through a world-class system with a meditation led by Brooklyn-based “sound healer” Samer Ghadry?
Brooklyn Creates Pop-Up @ Empire Stores
11 a.m.
“Buy local” is a great slogan, but can be hard to actually accomplish. So we’re making it easy. The Brooklyn Creates marketplace, which operates on Saturday and Sunday, has dozens of talented local makers, artisans and small businesses selling all kinds of stuff: jewelry, clothes, skin care, even tableware. Plus, there will be tons of food vendors on hand so you don’t actually have to shop ‘til you drop.
Brooklyn Whiskey and Spirits Fest @ Industry City
1 p.m.
Your humble author has never had a sophisticated enough palate to be a fan of any spirits — beer and wine only, please. But if you’ve got a taste for whiskey (or gin, or tequila, or vodka, or…), this is your paradise. One ticket allows you to sample a bunch of whiskeys and other spirits, and learn about them from experts as well. There’s also a special, far less expensive, designated driver ticket, if you want to make a big sacrifice so your crew can stay safe.
The Cherry Orchard @ St. Ann’s Warehouse
2 p.m. & 7:30 p.m.
This “conspicuously kooky” version of Chekov’s classic stars Nina Hoss, who you may recognize from ‘Homeland’ or ‘Tár.’ The production feels intimate — audiences sit on all sides of the stage. The production got rave reviews overseas, and tickets here are selling fast.
Lilly Palmer @ The Great Hall at Avant Gardner
10 p.m.
Palmer is a German DJ whose electronic music sets will make you feel like you’re at a boat party in Ibiza or a giant EDM festival in France—probably because she just came from one of those places. So if you’re in the mood to travel to an exotic location without actually leaving Brooklyn (and to do it while dancing), this is your best bet.

Nitehawk Shorts Festival 2025: NOBUDGE @ Nitehawk Cinema, Prospect Park
11 a.m.

New Voices Festival 2025: Lost/Found I @ Roulette
4:30 p.m. pre-concert lecture, 5 p.m. concert
The Brooklyn Art Song Society’s annual New Voices Festival begins with this program. It features a new song cycle by Cecilia Livingston, and a lot more besides. Plus, tickets are priced at “pay what you choose”—with a $10 minimum—so great art can (finally) be affordable.
Alana Markel @ Elsewhere Zone One
6 p.m.
Markel is a fantastic young singer whose dreamy pop tracks like “Let U In” and “Deuces” will surely be popping up on your favorite playlist soon, if they haven’t already. This show celebrates the release of her new EP Winter Starlet.
Jacquees & Dej Loaf – F#*k a Friend Zone Tour @ Warsaw
7 p.m.
Singer Jacquees and sneakily influential melodic rapper Dej Loaf have released two different Fuck a Friend Zone duo projects, with the most recent arriving this past Valentine’s Day. It’s only right that they celebrate the legacy on an appropriately named joint tour.
